Sacred Labor : Artist Talk & Performance

  • The Chloe 4125 Saint Charles Avenue New Orleans, LA, 70115 United States (map)

Join us for an evening celebrating the rich cultural traditions of the Black Masking Indians.

Experience Sacred Labor, a powerful exhibition centering the artistry, ritual, and cultural legacy of New Orleans Black Masking Indians sewing traditions. The exhibition situates ceremonial suit-making, intricate beadwork, and handcraft as vital cultural knowledge, moving the narrative beyond the spectacle of Mardi Gras. Join us throughout March to explore large-scale photographic works, a hand-sewn suit, artifacts, and historical texts

The Sacred Labor exhibition comes to life with a special event:

  • Live Musical Performance by Black Masking Indians, highlighting the deep musical traditions of the culture.

  • Artist Talk to gain insight into the artistry, ritual, and legacy of the sewing traditions.
