About John Michael Bradford
John Michael’s passion for music is sculpted by the spirit, sounds, and fate of his hometown, New Orleans, Louisiana and has him poised to become a leading light in today’s music scene. John Michael’s musical story began when his grandfather gave him his old high school trumpet just before he turned ten years old. By the age of eleven he had earned enough money from playing trumpet and singing on the streets and at local events to buy his first professional trumpet.
John Michael has been mentored by and performed professionally with many legends and artists including Donald Harrison, Nicholas Payton, Terence Blanchard, The World Famous Treme Brass Band, Preservation Hall, Herbie Hancock, Fred Wesley, Wycliff Gordon, Christian Scott, Trombone Shorty, Charmaine Neville, Norma Miller, The Neville Brothers, Ellis Marsalis and the Marsalis family, Dr. John, Fats Domino, Harry Connick, Jr., Sean Jones, Lenny Stallworth, Lalah Hathaway, Jamison Ross, Herlin Riley, Leslie Odom Jr., Chris Severin, Jesse McBride’s collectives The Next Generation & Next Generation Big Band, Trumpet Mafia, The Tipitina’s Interns, and many more.
He has recorded with esteemed artists such as Donald Harrison; Sam Williams of Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Rickie Monie of Preservation Hall; Leo Nocentelli of the Funky Meters; Joe Jackson; Trumpet Mafia; Jesse McBride; The Grammy Band; The National Jazz and Heritage Park; The Ellis Marsalis Center Jazz Orchestra; Preservation Hall Jazz Band; music for Avant Toi’s Harlem Story, a short film written and produced by Yuri Catania, and music for ending credits of Tyler Perry’s movie Acrimony; Ralph Peterson’s GenNext Big Band, Icons Among Us, as well as other projects.
