Contemporary clarinetist and composer Benjamin Cousins brings a fresh, modern voice to the New Orleans jazz lineage. Raised in the vibrant musical ecosystem of New Orleans, Cousins honed his craft playing alongside local icons and developing his sound through the Preservation Hall Jr. Jazz Band, NOCCA, and mentorship under NEA Jazz Master Donald Harrison Jr.

Grounded by a Master’s degree from Temple University and a Bachelor’s from Berklee College of Music, Cousins leads his ensemble, The Sonic Architects. Their debut album, What We Dream It to Be (2026), earned a New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation Grant and showcases his signature warm tone and innovative compositions. Benjamin Cousins is an endorsed artist with Conn Selmer and Silverstein Works.
